Our story

Training abroad, brought home

As a Bermudian, Dr. Sam always intended to bring her training home. After years of specialised education and clinical training overseas, she returned to introduce neuropsychology to the island, and to create access to the specialised brain and behavioural healthcare Bermudian families had historically had to travel abroad to receive.

Mindset was never intended simply to provide testing or diagnoses. At its core it exists to help people understand the why behind the challenges they are experiencing, and to know what to do next. For a parent, that may mean finally understanding why a bright child continues to struggle. For an adult, it may mean understanding change following a concussion or a neurological condition. For an older adult and their family, it may mean finding clarity around changes in memory or thinking.

As Mindset has grown, so has that original vision. What began as Bermuda’s first dedicated neuropsychological practice is developing into a broader centre for assessment, intervention, education and innovative brain-based care across the lifespan.

A diagnosis can be important, but it is not the end goal. Understanding is.
Our mission

To bring clarity to how the brain works, translate that understanding into meaningful action, and give people the tools and support they need to unlock their potential.

Mindset looks beyond symptoms to understand the whole person: cognitive strengths and weaknesses, development, emotions, environment, relationships and everyday functioning - then translates that into practical support that makes a difference at home, at school, at work and in the community.

What we will not do

Report a score without explaining it
Recommend something the family or the teacher cannot carry out
Describe a person by their difficulties alone
Publish a claim about outcomes we cannot evidence

Behaviour is what we see.
Cognition is what is happening beneath it.

Concerns arrive described in behaviour or in symptoms.

She isn’t concentrating.

He won’t start his work.

Grandad keeps asking the same question.

My head hasn’t been right since the match.

Underneath each of those sit specific systems:

attention memory executive function processing speed language regulation

Naming the system is what turns a worry into something that can be assessed, explained and planned for.

That is the whole of our approach, and it holds whether the person in front of us is two years old or eighty-two.

Not a label. A clearer picture of how a particular brain works.

The approach

Two sequences, from the classroom to the workplace

FrameworkStagesWhere it is used
Assessment & support
Observe Understand Support Measure Adjust
Every assessment, every plan
Classroom & occupational practice
Need Function Support Expected shift Outcome
Schools, workplaces, insurers, HR, training & wellbeing

Why this matters

A framework is not decoration. It is what makes two clinicians arrive at the same answer and what makes a recommendation auditable - you can see which step it came from, and what to do when it does not work.

"Don't start with the strategy. Start with the function."
